The Fraunhofer Group of Production was founded in 1998 as part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe's largest organization for application-oriented research. Today, 13 institutes and facilities pool their expertise within the group and develop innovative system solutions for German and international companies. Contract research for industry and government is a core business area.
The group's range of services covers the entire value-added process – from product idea to industrial implementation. Guided by the latest findings in production and engineering sciences as well as computer science, we conduct cutting-edge applied research for product and production technologies across the entire life cycle: from design and processes to quality and energy efficiency, and on to circular economy principles.
A particular focus is on the transfer of knowledge into industrial practice. We support companies from the initial idea through prototype development to series production readiness and assist them with training programs. Our solutions are designed to be systemic and interoperable: end-to-end approaches across the factory and supply chain, with compatible interfaces and secure data spaces, enable seamless and networked production.
People are at the heart of everything we do. Ergonomic and safe working environments, intelligent assistance systems, and continuous professional development are central components of our research. At the same time, we ensure economic viability: We develop scalable business cases and models, making R&D results marketable, standardizable, and compatible across industries.
